NSW Branch Executive

Meet the 2026 NSW Branch executive team.

Bronte Sial
Chair

Bronte Sial

Bronte Sial is a Radiation Protection Expert at ANSTO with over a decade of experience spanning operational radiation safety, consultancy, and radiological emergency management, including supporting the national response to Western Australia’s missing radioactive source. Guided by curiosity and a passion for protecting others, she meets radiation challenges head-on. Birds, though? She keeps her distance, those feathery dinosaurs-in-waiting can’t be trusted.

Tina Paneras
Secretary

Tina Paneras

Tina Paneras is the Safety Education and Training Manager at ANSTO with almost two decades of experience across operational radiation safety, radiation safety lifecycle, and radiation safety training, including fulfilling the role of expert lecturer on two international IAEA Train the Trainer projects. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with family, volunteering with local organisations and inspiring others with her love of nature and birds (Bronte – let’s talk).

Josh Smith
Treasurer

Josh Smith

Josh Smith is a radiation protection professional at ANSTO with five years of experience across operational health physics and the Radiological Management team. His background as a mechanic shapes his practical, grounded approach to technical challenges. After hours, he trades dosimeters for mosh pits.

Jim Scott
General Executive

Jim Scott

Jim Scott is currently the Branch Head of Regulatory Services at the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency. He has worked in regulation for the last 20 years, and, prior to this, worked as a nuclear engineer in the UK nuclear power industry, and as a nuclear medicine physicist in the UK, Canada and Australia.

Josh Reus-Smit
General Executive

Josh Reus-Smit

With over 15 years of experience in the radiation protection field, Josh Reus-Smit is a Radiation Protection Technologist within ANSTO’s Radiological Emergency Management Team. He brings extensive expertise in radiation monitoring, technical problem-solving, emergency response planning, mentoring and training staff, and supporting commercial agreements. Known for his precision and consistency, colleagues often joke that Josh is “robotic” in nature, reliably operating at the forefront of radiation protection technology.

Kaan Kaban
General Executive

Kaan Kaban

With capability spanning radiation modelling, nuclear regulatory compliance, and advanced analytical techniques, Kaan Kaban serves as a Health Physicist at ANSTO with a longstanding passion for space and nuclear science. He delivers radiation protection advice across operations and acts as the Australian representative on a working group developing safety approaches for fission reactors in space. And when situations start heating up, he steps in as your friendly neighbourhood RPA—keeping things subcritical in every sense.
