    Radiation Protection and Wellness Webinar

    Consumer-Grade Electronic Radon Monitors:
    C-NRPP Test Results

    November 30, 2023

Register for a free webinar at noon EST:

November is National Radon Action Month. Learn about the Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program (C-NRPP)’s test of consumer-grade electronic radon monitors. To provide Canadian consumers with an unbiased performance-based comparison of the electronic radon monitors available to them, the C-NRPP developed a test procedure and conducted performance tests using RSIC’s certified radon chamber. Pam Warkentin, the executive director of the Canadian Association of Radon Scientist and Technologists (CARST) and the C-NRPP, and Brian Bjorndal, Director of the Fergal Nolan National Laboratories, will present on the study. Representatives from Health Canada will also be joining during the Q&A to help answer questions people may have about radon, a form of radiation that is found in many buildings at high enough levels to put people at increased risk of lung cancer.

The information session will be followed by a 20-minute wellness break: beginner Tai-Chi led by Charlmane Wong of Ji Hong Tai Chi & Qi Gong of Richmond Hill, Ontario.

We hope you are able to join us; but if not, register to get a link to the video and supporting information after the webinar.

The IAEA's transport regulations SSR-6 (Rev.1) have established A1 and A2 values to contain package contents within acceptable radiological consequences after an accident, aligning with radiological protection principles.

This necessitated a review to incorporate the latest ICRP dose coefficients, international standards, and calculation techniques, while addressing issues surrounding Q value limits and progeny treatment. The objective is to provide a scientifically sound analysis of the impact of 'A' value changes.

The Phoenix Leaders Education Program is recruiting new students.

The October 2023 admission process for the 'Phoenix Leader Education Program for Renaissance after a Radioactive Disaster' of Hiroshima University has begun.

Program officials expect and accept outstanding students from around the world who wish to take on responsibilities in the management of possible future radioactive disasters.

Academically, the interdisciplinary and practical program is based on the experiences and achievements of Hiroshima University in support after the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombs.

The program aims to train personnel with the necessary skills to protect human health against radiological risks and also protect the environment and society against radioactivity.

The 4-5 year integrated program is designed to develop interdisciplinary and comprehensive global leaders (Phoenix Leaders) capable of acting appropriately in circumstances of radiation risk and contributing to the restoration of post-disaster situations based on a clear philosophy.
