Welcome to the South Australia Branch of the Australasian Radiation Protection Society (ARPS). If you are interested in attending branch meetings, professional activities, and radiation protection events across South Australia, you are in the right place. Our branch helps members stay connected with local updates, opportunities, and peers working across the field.
The SA Branch supports local connection, information sharing and professional engagement for people working in radiation protection and related disciplines across South Australia.
For branch enquiries, updates or general ARPS contact, please use the ARPS contact page.
Meet the current South Australia Branch executive team.
Katrina Taloni has 10 years of radiation safety and compliance experience in mining & mineral processing, industrial and radiopharmaceutical & medical research industries. Katrina currently works for BHP as a technical lead, specialising in aerosol characterisation, dose modelling and legislative analysis and governance. Katrina is very passionate about radiation education and early career development and is involved with the ARPYGN as their Vice-President and represents ARPS at IRPA in their Training & Education task group. Outside of work, Katrina excels at utilising useless fact and pop culture knowledge retention skills to ace trivia nights and practicing her jailbreak skills in escape rooms
Jason is currently a PhD student studying at The University of Adelaide focusing on the geological disposal of long lived isotopes in nuclear waste. He has experience in environmental consulting and has completed his BSc (Hons) at The University of Adelaide in 2022 on artificial isotopes in soils from the old nuclear weapons testing site at Maralinga, SA. He specialises in trace element detection and in geochemistry occurring between radioactive elements and minerals, primarily in granites and clays.
Esaaf Alsoki is a Radiation Protection Advisor based in Adelaide, with a BSc in Physics and an MSc in Radiation Protection and Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources. With academic and industry experience across the Middle East and Australia, she supports radiation safety programs at mining operations in South Australia through RadSol. Her work spans occupational exposure assessment, statistical analysis of monitoring data, technical reporting, and specialised training in dust, radon, and emergency response. A published researcher, ARPS SA Branch committee member, and aspiring CRSA, Esaaf is passionate about making radiation safety practical, accessible, and impactful, while enjoying family adventures.
David is the ARPSA SA branch treasurer. He has 20 years’ experience in health physics and environmental management in uranium and NORM mining. He is currently Principal Radiation Specialist at the Environment Protection Authority South Australia (EPA) and is the South Australian representative on the ARPANSA Radiation Health Committee. David previously worked at the BHP Olympic Dam mine in radiation safety and environment roles. He has an interest in instrumentation and measurement and maintains the EPA radon chamber.
Alice is a practitioner with about 20 years of operational radiation protection experience gained across mining and mineral processing sites in Australia and Africa. She is a director of SA Radiation, and maintains a focus on supporting clients in NORM industries at all stages of operation and remediation (but will have a go at nearly anything).
Martin Jane has over 16 years of radiation safety experience across the mining, medical, and industrial sectors. He has previously operated as a Radiation Safety Officer and Emergency Response Coordinator focusing on Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material and logging sources. Martin currently provides specialised radiation safety consultancy with SA Radiation, delivering medical and industrial compliance testing, in-field monitoring, tailored training programs, and advanced data analysis solutions to ensure the highest standards of radiological safety. When not doing radiation protection Marty does his best to find the perfect groan in response to his definitely extremely funny dad jokes.
Yasmin Gomes is a Radiation Specialist at BHP and has been working in the mining industry for over 5 years specialising in occupational hygiene and radiation management. With a particular interest in underground Radon Decay Product management, she enjoys working with site teams to increase the awareness of radiation exposure pathways, while also working on improvement projects relating to dose management and compliance. Outside of work she enjoys relaxing with a good book or watching any kind of sport (except golf), even better if it’s live.
