    About the position
    The Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) team partners with all levels of the organisation coaching and influencing to make HSE personal. They provide future focussed, leading-edge development and delivery of HSE programs that result in significant improvement in CSIRO’s wellbeing and HSE culture.

    The HSE Advisor – Radiation Safety Support reports to the HSE Manager for Manufacturing (CSIRO’s Chief Radiation Safety Officer) as well as working as part of the broader HSE team. This role is responsible for delivering HSE services by providing tailored technical and specialist HSE support to assist CSIRO’s business units in managing the regulatory requirements of the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA). The role will assist the Chief Radiation Safety Officer from an administrative perspective and be involved in developing and delivering strategic HSE programs to enhance CSIRO’s HSE and wellbeing culture in addition to providing radiation safety related support to the HSE team. To be successful, an HSE Advisor needs to be able to support CSIRO’s Radiation Safety Officer network and staff across multiple business units and sites.

    About the position

    The Health Physics Surveyor provides hands-on safety advice and monitoring services to a range of operational areas to ensure the safety of staff, contractors and visitors; and compliance with ANSTO’s WHS Standards and Practices, and with regulatory requirements.

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Monitor and measure radiation levels and advise on radiological hazards, provide ventilation safety advice, log information to ensure QA compliance,
    • Provide advice to different levels of personnel on the most effective practical radiation protection measures to be taken across a large and varied range of situations.  This advice is based on defined policies and procedures within a set range of parameters,
    • Deliver basic radiation safety training to other ANSTO staff, including trainee safety officers and describe work procedures to non-ANSTO visitors,                 
    • Provide advice on radiation safety procedures to be incorporated into divisional documents, including assisting in the preparation of these work instructions while following safety standards, procedures and instructions. 

    Skills and Experience
    • Tertiary qualifications (commonly Trade certificate) in relevant engineering or science discipline or relevant ANSTO experience,
    • Knowledge of radiation measurement methods,
    • Organisational skills and meticulous approach to work with the ability to plan and organise tasks effectively for self,
    • Pro-active and reliable in following through with actions.

    We are seeking a Graduate Radiochemist to work across a wide variety of radiopharmaceutical production and pharmaceutical activities within the Molecular Imaging and Therapy Research Unit (MITRU) located at SAHMRI. The MITRU facility is home to South Australia's only cyclotron and manufactures radiopharmaceuticals under a TGA licence.

    About the Role

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Completion of documentation related to all tasks including batch records, quality records and log books whilst adhering to GMP.
    • Acceptance and control of raw materials, including sampling, testing and dispensing materials for Production and QC.
    • Manufacture all radiopharmaceutical products according to SOPs, aseptic methodology and principles of GMP.
    • Maintenance of adequate stock consumables and raw materials (including long lead time materials) to allow critical work to continue uninterrupted.
    • Packaging and testing of radioactive shipments for customers.
    • Calibration and standardisation of equipment including assistance of service staff whilst on site.
    • Use of computerised production systems and QC equipment.
    • General laboratory housekeeping
    About You
    The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in a science related discipline
    • Experience and knowledge in the use of standard laboratory equipment, for example liquid, gas and thin-layer chromatography systems is advantageous.
    • Experience in pharmaceutical clean-room protocols/procedures would be advantageous
    • Knowledge, experience and/or training to meet GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) requirements would also be advantageous
    • Experience in the pharmaceutical manufacturing and testing environment desirable
    • Microbiological experience and reporting would be desirable.
    • Working knowledge of radiation protection practices preferred

    About the position
    The Radiopharmaceutical Chemist reports to the Senior Radiochemist. The responsibilities include taking part in research and development programs with commercial and research outcomes.
    The Radiopharmaceutical Chemist has skills in the area of synthetic chemistry and analytical measurements and separation and is heavily involved in all aspects of the synthetic chemistry section and drug synthesis laboratory with emphasis in metal complexation. This position is also heavily focused on analytical processes involving NMR, Mass Spectroscopy, HPLC, FTIR, UV and other analyses.
    As a requirement you must hold Australian Citizenship to apply for the role as this is within a Government department. Applicants may have to complete a pre-employment medical and complete a thorough security check which can take several weeks.


    Skills & experience:
    PhD in Organic/Synthetic/Medicinal Chemistry or related discipline
    Experience working within a research focused lab

    The role

    About the position

    The primary objective of the Radiochemistry Laboratory Technician is to support the research and operational requirements of the radiochemical laboratories and instrument laboratories that form Radioanalytical Chemistry (RAC) within Nuclear Stewardship by preparing samples and operating analytical equipment for the measurement of radioactivity in environmental samples and ensuring smooth and effective operation and maintenance of equipment and facilities.

    Duties and responsibilities
     

    • The Radiochemistry Laboratory Technician reports to the RAC Manager as well as respective laboratory managers.
    • Under instruction of an experienced radiochemist, assist in radiochemical separation and purification of actinides and other radionuclides to accurately quantify the activity and identify radionuclides in environmental samples for the purpose of research and site assessment.
    • Prepare high quality alpha, beta and gamma sample measurement sources under instruction of an experienced radiochemist.
    • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as titration equipment, analytical balances, high speed centrifuge, water purification systems, pH meters and micropipettes to ensure equipment and facilities are well maintained, and operating correctly and safely with minimal down-time.
    • Maintain and clean labware and lab facilities.
    • Practice good laboratory housekeeping, ensure laboratory cleanliness is upheld and adequate stock of chemicals and consumables is maintained.

     Skills and Experience
     
    • A Certificate IV with relevant experience or Diploma qualification in Science.
    • Practical experience working within a chemical or analytical laboratory environment.
    • Technical laboratory skills in chemistry or radiochemistry.
    • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and establish productive relationships.
