ARPS is an Associate Society of the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA).
ARPS publishes a quarterly journal, Radiation Protection in Australasia, and a quarterly Newsletter for its members.
The Radiation Health and Safety Advisory Council (the Council) is currently calling for nominees to nine part-time Member positions.
The Council is established under the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Act 1998 as an advisory body to the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA).
The role of the Council is to identify emerging issues relating to radiation protection and nuclear safety, including matters of major concern to the community, and to advise the CEO of the ARPANSA on those matters.
Members of the Council are part-time appointments for a period of up to three years, made by the Assistant Minister for Health in consultation with the CEO of ARPANSA. Members are expected to attend three meetings each year, with each meeting taking between 1.5 to 2 days. Members receive sitting fees, as determined by the Remuneration Tribunal.
The terms of the nine expiring Member positions end on 31 March 2018. The Council is looking to maintain a diverse membership to achieve the statutory responsibilities of the Council.

In this role, you will perform a range of complex scientific tasks, including environmental dispersion modelling and dose calculations, to estimate risk and potential health impacts to the public, workers and the environment from exposure to ionising radiation. You will work closely with other staff within the Assessment and Advice Section, and liaise with internal and external stakeholders, to ensure that advice provided is based on the latest scientific knowledge and national and international experience.

The committees, established under the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Act 1998, provide advice to the CEO of ARPANSA on a range of radiation protection or nuclear safety matters.
Commencing January 2018, RHC and NSC Committee memberships are part-time appointments for a period of up to three years. Members are expected to attend three meetings each year in either Melbourne or Sydney.

This role delivers traceable calibrations for radiotherapy facilities and other users of radiation measurements at the highest level of accuracy. You will participate in the implementation of reference beams and the maintenance of Australian standards of kerma and absorbed dose. You will also contribute to experimental work and theoretical modelling using your critical data analyses and expertise in radiation physics and quality assurance methods. On 25-29 June 2018 the International Symposium on Uranium Raw Material for Nuclear Fuel Cycle: Exploration, Mining, Production, Supply and Demand, Economics and Environmental Issues will be held in Vienna, Austria.

Expressions of interest are sought for membership of the Radiation Advisory Committee (RAC) of the Department of Health and Human Services. The RAC consists of at least five members appointed by the Minister for Health for a period of three years. It advises and reports to the Minister or the Secretary of the Department on any matter relating to the administration of the Radiation Act 2005.
Prospective members will have to undergo probity checks, including a police check. Applications close on 2 June 2017.
