Queensland Health is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Health and Medical Physicist to join our Health Protection and Regulation Branch. In this role, you'll help protect Queenslanders by enforcing radiation safety laws, providing expert scientific advice, and conducting field measurements across a range of industries and environments—from hospitals to mines to research facilities.
What You’ll Be Doing

Regulate radiation safety across Queensland by conducting audits, inspections, and investigations under the Radiation Safety Act 1999

Provide expert advice on complex health and medical physics issues, including risk assessments and intervention planning

Measure and interpret radiation exposures, both ionising and non-ionising, across a wide variety of locations and sectors

Develop policies, reports, and presentations to support state-wide radiation protection initiatives

Participate in an on-call roster for urgent matters, and make delegated decisions regarding compliance and enforcement
About You
We’re looking for someone who brings:

A tertiary qualification in physics or an applied science (postgraduate qualifications are a strong advantage)

A current C Class Driver’s Licence

Experience in at least three of the following areas:

Postgraduate qualifications in radiation physics (e.g. MSc, PhD)

Work as a radiation physicist or in a radiation-related science field

Communicating scientific advice to a range of audiences

Experience in a regulatory compliance environment

Affiliation with a radiation-related professional organisation
