About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists to join the Copper South Australia Health, Safety and Security (HSS) team in the role of Specialist Radiation, reporting to the Superintendent Radiation. You will be an integral member in a team of dedicated HSS professionals enabling the health, safety, and capability of our workforce. You will play an instrumental role in implementing radiation management plans, supporting our customers and the identification and assessment of health and safety risks and recommending radiation management controls. 

The position is available at Carrapateena on a 7/7 day only roster with FIFO ex Adelaide or Port Augusta.

Your accountabilities will include:

• Anticipate, identify, assess, recommend, and verify controls for the following: Radiation hazards including long lived radioactive dust (LLRD), gamma irradiation, and radon decay products (RDP), radiation emitting equipment, and processes such as radiation contamination clearance, waste management and transport requirements.
• Support for the Carrapateena Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)
• Support the execution of the radiation monitoring program as per the Radiation Management Plan.
• Anticipate, identify, assess, recommend and verify controls on radiation exposures and management 
• Be responsible for delivering radiation improvement projects or initiatives to meet internal and external requirements. 
• Provide specialist/ functional expertise to leadership on Radiation related programs/ initiatives/ controls to mitigate risks and enable compliance with Health, Safety and statutory requirements.
• Lead the management of radiation improvement projects, update project schedules/status reports and deliver project outcomes.
• Lead the management of unexpected Radiation events including hazard assessments and recommendation of immediate corrective actions to prevent exposure.
• Lead and support the execution of Radiation audits (internal and external).
• Manage Cority database to ensure quality of monitoring data, accurate reporting of results to stakeholders and management of Radiation Monitoring and Measurement  equipment.
• Manage and perform calibration of radiation Monitoring and Measurement equipment as required
• Perform training for internal and external personnel on Radiation protection and processes.
• Complete internal radiation site reporting and support external reporting requirements.
• Complete assigned 1SAP Work Management and Standardised Work activities.
• Comply to and consistently follow the standards and procedures designed to enable you to work safely and effectively.

As a successful candidate you will possess the following:

• Tertiary qualification in Radiation/Nuclear Science, Occupational Hygiene, Toxicology, Health Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering or similar.
• High level of technical and practical skills in radiation and/or occupational hygiene.
• Ability to engage, coach and influence multiple stakeholders at varying levels of the organisation on health-related initiatives or matters.
• Ability to work autonomously while also thriving in a collaborative team environment and take personal accountability for actions and performance.
• Strong planning, organisational, Microsoft suite of applications (word, excel, power point) and time management skills.

While not mandatory, it will be desirable to possess the following:

• SA EPA Licence to Handle Radioactive Materials and Licence to Operate Ionising Apparatus, or interstate equivalent
• Knowledge of radiation safety regulations set by EPA, ARPSANA, ICRP and IAEA 
• Previous experience with Cority (or Medgate) database.
• Accreditation with the Australasian Radiation Protection Accreditation Board (ARPAB) or ability to work towards obtaining
