Full time ongoing/Non-ongoing | $123,561-$142,168 per annum package inc 15.4% super

Primary purpose of the role

Under broad direction from the Director, Radiation Protection Services, the Assistant Director, Occupational Exposures and Dosimetry will be responsible for scoping and developing a strategic plan for ARPANSA’s internal and external dosimetry capabilities and services that will meet the future needs of the Australian government, customers and other stakeholders.  You will engage with key stakeholders to understand the current state, limitations, risks and future operational requirements.

 Key accountabilities

  • Working with a level of independence you will be required to understand internal and external dosimetry requirements for a range of occupational and public exposure pathways. 
  • Effectively manage competing priorities when achieving project outcomes in line with agency goals and objectives.
  • Identify and develop a strategic plan for ARPANSA’s internal and external dosimetry services and capabilities, that meets the future needs of the Australian community.
  • Build constructive internal and external relationships in order to meet future customer needs.
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continual improvement in a positive team environment.

Job specific capabilities

To be considered for this position, you will have successfully worked in a scientific leadership role and have well developed skills in the measurement, calculation and assessment of ionising radiation dose absorbed by the human body. 

Tertiary qualifications from an Australian Tertiary Institution in a relevant field or comparable overseas qualifications or other alternative qualifications and experience appropriate to the position are essential. 

You will have demonstrated experience in engaging stakeholders to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes and deliver high quality customer service.

You will have demonstrated experience in research and analysis of customer needs, identification of technical solutions, and production of presentations and written reports.

You must hold Australian citizenship or possess permanent residency status leading to citizenship and be prepared to travel interstate and/or overseas from time to time as required. ARPANSA requires all new employees to undertake a baseline security clearance as a condition of engagement. This position may require you to successfully undertake and maintain a higher level security clearance.  

Selection criteria

  1. Experience and knowledge in the field of the protection of workers exposed to ionising radiation. 
  2. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage complex projects to achieve quality outcomes.
  3. Experience with and knowledge of information management systems, including good understanding of associated privacy and security issues.
  4. High level interpersonal and communication skills which demonstrate a capacity to work collaboratively with colleagues and peers.
  5. Demonstrated ability to build and manage key strategic relationships with a broad range of stakeholders and clients, including anticipating customer requirements.
