About the Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing the duties imposed upon the Radiation Safety Officer by The Act (South Australia Radiation Protection and Control Act 1982) and The Regulations (South Australia Radiation Protection and Control (Ionising Radiation) Regulations 2015)
  • Acting as liaison between the South Australian Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and SAHMRI
  • Advising SAHMRI staff and the SAHMRI Radiation Safety Committee on all aspects of radiation protection applicable to the activities carried out by SAHMRI
  • Facilitate new and ongoing radiation activities at SAHMRI as chair of the Radiation Safety Committee
  • Maintaining and regularly reviewing the SAHMRI Radiation Management Plan and Radiation Safety Manual
  • Performing internal inspections and audits on SAHMRI’s licensed premises and registered radiation apparatus
  • Providing specialised knowledge in radiation science and radiation protection to SAHMRI researchers to aid in starting and implementing projects with radiation

About You

The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:

  • Relevant Bachelor’s level degree or higher
  • Certification in Quality Management, Internal Auditing, Safety or similar is desirable
  • Expertise in quality, compliance and work health and safety management within a complex organisational structure
  • Experience in research in a field of bioscience or similar
  • Substantial experience in gaining accreditation in relation to Safety and Quality MS such as ISO and NATA
  • Sound knowledge of international Quality Systems Regulations
  • Working experience with risk management concepts and tools
  • Working knowledge of research facility, equipment and process qualification/validation

Special Requirements

  • Some out of hours work may be required.
  • DCSI Employment Screening and Police Checks may be required.
  • Be contactable to assist with any radiation incidents, accidents and emergencies
  • Have, or obtain all relevant EPA licenses
  • Liaise between SAHMRI and South Australian universities, research organisations and SAHMRI partners (SAHMRI RSO provides radiation safety services for Adelaide Uni and Flinders Uni, Dr Jones & Partners, RAH and is a member of the CRIC Quality and Safety Committee)
