About the Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly formed Nuclear Assurance Group being established to provide a dedicated independent safety review team and is a key element in ANSTO’s safety systems to protect workers, the community and environment. The position requires a strong Work Health and Safety, Radiation Protection or System Engineering background, an eye for detail and ability to understand and evaluate complex hazardous work environments, systems and processes. Ability to think outside the box to identify potential deficiencies and determine the adequacy of safety cases is required.

Your Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide authoritative and expert independent review of nuclear Safety cases, risk assessments and change requests for submission to ARPANSA
  • Provide frank and fearless advice and recommendations to the Chief Nuclear Officer as to whether safety cases are justified in terms of the overall net benefit
  • Support the operational integration of nuclear and radiological assurance initiatives across the ANSTO Group
  • Ensure conformance to regulations, standards and codes set by external authorities, reviews and quality audits. 
  • Provide expert and specialist advice on complex matters to assure a focus on appropriate control of hazardous activities.
