The Ministry of Health – Manatū Hauora is seeking candidates for appointment to the Radiation Safety Advisory Council, established under the Radiation Safety Act 2016.

The Council advises the Director for Radiation Safety and the Minister of Health on matters relating to radiation safety standards, authorisations, and the safe and beneficial use of ionising radiation in New Zealand.

Two vacancies are currently available, with at least one position intended for a lay member. Applications are especially encouraged from candidates with knowledge or experience in:

  • Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM), mining, or regulatory oversight of these activities

  • The use of radioactive materials or irradiating apparatus in non-medical contexts (research, industry, veterinary, engineering)

  • International radiation protection standards (ICRP, IAEA, etc.)

Appointments are typically for three-year terms. The Ministry values diversity and encourages applications from all backgrounds, including those with an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations.
