Sydney Local Health District is seeking a Radiation Safety Officer and Laser Safety Officer to join the team at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH), one of Australia’s leading teaching hospitals and the principal teaching hospital of the University of Sydney.

About the Role

This position is responsible for ensuring the safe and optimal use of ionising and non-ionising (laser) radiation in clinical practice and scientific research at RPAH.

The role oversees and monitors the hospital’s radiation protection program, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and codes of practice governing the use of ionising and non-ionising radiation.

The successful applicant will also provide expert radiation safety advice to staff, patients and the public, and prepare radiation dose estimates to support clinical procedures and research studies.

Ideal Candidate

• Holds a degree in a relevant area of physical science, preferably at MSc level.

• Has sound knowledge and understanding of the principles associated with the use of ionising and non-ionising (laser) radiation in clinical practice.

• Holds, or is eligible to hold, a NSW EPA radiation licence.

• Has experience applying radiation control legislation and relevant codes of safe practice.
