    Our South Australian operations consist of three primary mine assets, containing some of the world's most significant deposits of copper, gold and uranium; Carrapateena is one of the largest mining projects in the state in the last 10 years, Olympic Dam is a globally renowned deposit with nearly 700km of underground roads and tunnels, and Prominent Hill produces one of the highest grades of Copper in the world. Beyond this at Oak Dam exploration undertaken to date has indicated the presence of high-grade copper and associated minerals.     About the Role

    An exciting opportunity exists to join the Copper South Australia (CuSA) Health, Safety, Security and Emergency Management (HSSEM) Team in the role of reporting through to the Manager Asset HSSEM.

    As a part of the Asset team, you will be an instrumental player in leading and supporting radiation management initiatives, as well as improving the site radiation management plans across Copper South Australia sites. You will identify and assess safety, health and environmental risks and recommend radiation management controls. You will also advise on health & safety matters in the workplace that potentially impact human health from radiation work-related sources.

    This position will be working in the BHP Adelaide office on a 5/2 Monday to Friday Roster with regular site travel as required.

    In this role you will:

    • Provide leadership, coaching, strategic decision making and Asset communication to internal and external customers on key radiation management decisions, plans and regulatory requirements
    • Anticipate, identify, assess, recommend and verify controls in relation to radiation management within our Asset
    • Set strategic direction on radiation related initiatives in line with BHP’s risk management process
    • Accountable for reporting of radiation exposure and ensuring quality of radiation data
    • Recommend and support exposure control options and develop robust control strategies to reduce exposure across CuSA sites
    • Be responsible for delivering radiation improvement projects or initiatives to meet internal and external requirements in collaboration with internal peers
    • Ensure the success of our radiation exposure reduction strategy by engaging and influencing senior leaders to progress radiation management business plan initiatives at our sites
    • Govern, maintain, and improve radiation related standards, processes, systems and procedures
    • Plan and communicate the radiation monitoring program as per the radiation management plan
    • Manage unexpected exposure events including hazard assessment and recommendation of immediate corrective actions to prevent further exposure
    • Support the development of radiation exposure related training and awareness packages
    • Contribute to the program development of on-site radiation and occupational hygiene capability
    • Lead a team of Radiation subject matter experts

    About the Opportunity

    Sieverts Radiation Protection Consultancy is seeking a Medical Physicist to join its team in a remote, client-facing role servicing radiation safety and compliance needs across diagnostic imaging environments.

    This position is suited to someone who is looking to further develop their technical capability and work toward increasingly independent practice. The successful applicant will build knowledge of legislation and industry practice while contributing to high-quality client outcomes across performance testing, shielding design, radiation safety officer functions, audits, advisory work, patient dosimetry, and associated reporting.

    The role is full-time and requires regular travel, with flexibility in scheduling to meet client needs. You will work from home and travel to client sites as required.

    About You

    To be considered for this role, applicants should demonstrate the following:

    • Bachelor of Science (Medical Physics) degree or equivalent, with a suitable GPA

    • Availability for a minimum 2-year contract term

    • Current QLD Radiation Use Licence

    • Access to reliable transport, preferably your own vehicle

    • Full Class C open driver licence

    • Reliable internet and phone access to support remote work requirements

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Shielding design calculations and reporting for various x-ray modalities

    • Radiation Safety Officer functions, including audits and advisory services

    • Radiation safety advisory work

    • Patient dosimetry calculations and reporting

    • Adherence to internal reporting processes under the direction of trainer physicists and managers

    • Proper record keeping in the Sieverts CRM in line with company requirements

    • Other miscellaneous technical projects and work as required

    Hours, Availability and Travel

    This role requires regular travel and a high level of flexibility. Appointment schedules may change at short notice depending on client bookings and cancellations, so the successful applicant will need to manage their calendar carefully.

    You will also be responsible for ensuring you have the relevant testing equipment for each scheduled appointment and for taking the initiative to coordinate access to equipment when needed.

    This is a remote working position. Travel within Queensland and interstate will be required as part of the role.

    Licensing and Accreditation

    The successful applicant will be expected to work toward full licensing and accreditation within timeframes advised by the company and agreed as reasonable by both parties. This includes:

    • Maintaining an existing QLD Radiation Use Licence

    • Obtaining Radiation Use Licences in two additional states within 9–12 months of commencing

    • Obtaining relevant Radiation Safety Officer certifications as advised

    • Applying for QLD accreditation as advised

    • Applying for accreditation in two states, including QLD, as advised

    About the Opportunity

    The Personal Dosimetry Officer provides leadership and coordination of ANSTO’s personal dosimetry service (external and internal) to ANSTO staff members, contractors and visitors. This position is subject matter expert for all aspects of personal radiation dosimetry from external and internal exposure pathways.  The role ensures the accurate formal measurement and record keeping of personal ionising radiation exposure at ANSTO.     Your Duties and Responsibilities

    • Lead and mentor Occupational Hygienists, Health Physicists, Dosimetry Technologists and Dosimetry Technicians in the provision, development, and continuous improvement of Personal Dosimetry Services and provide authoritative and expert advice to support the achievement of best practice.
    • Plans and supervises the management, calibration, maintenance of plant and equipment and services associated with the Personal Dosimetry Services including the in-vivo and in-vitro capabilities (Whole Body Monitor, Thyroid organ monitoring and Radiation Bioassay), passive external dosimetry, personal and area air sampling for measuring radioactivity.
    • Management of exposure record keeping and reporting systems within the Personal Dosimetry Services and forwarding ionising radiation dose records to the Australian National Radiation Dose Register (ANRDR).
    • Ownership and application of relevant ANSTO Radiation Protection standards, policies and guides as part of ANSTO’s WHS MS in relation to the field of dosimetry and quality assurance.  Ensure that these standards, policies and guides are appropriate, compliant with regulatory requirements and take account of international best practice.
    • Provide expert advice as part of the Safety and Reliability Assurance (SRA) process, and to the Reactor Assurance Committee (RAC); coordinate safety and radiation protection assessments and audits; and perform and assist in radiation and safety assessments, nuclear safety, and risk assessments and their review.

    Public Health Services (PHS) works to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of all Tasmanians by engaging with individuals, groups and communities Statewide and Nationally. The Radiation Protection Unit (RPU) within PHS is responsible for the administration of the Radiation Protection Act in Tasmania to protect people and the environment from the harmful effects of radiation. This is achieved through licensing, registration and a broad range of compliance and education activities.

    The Role:

    The purpose of this position is to assist in the administration of the Radiation Protection Act, Regulations and associated policies, procedures and guidelines, carry out regulatory inspections and compliance activities, and the development of innovative regulatory management solutions. The role will also:

    • Conduct regulatory aspects of radiation protection as an Authorised Officer under the Radiation Protection Act 2005.
    • Carry out projects and inspections under the Radiation Protection Act 2005.
    • Assist the RPU with the day-to-day administration of the Radiation Protection Act 2005, including preparation of authorities for issue and conduction of inspections to ensure that requirements of licence conditions and the Act are being met.
    • Assist the licensing and project officer with licensing and administrative duties as required from time to time.
    • Calibrate instruments and perform other health physics tasks as part of services offered to licence holders. 

    You will need:

    ·          

    • Tertiary qualification in Medical Physics or Health Physics or physics or a related discipline. 
    • Knowledge of radiation protection legislation applicable to the control and regulation of radiation sources in Tasmania.
    • High degree of analytical, conceptual, and communication skills, including the ability to provide technical advice to senior managers.

    The ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Radiation Innovation (RadInnovate) is led by The Australian National University (ANU) in collaboration with the University of South Australia (UniSA) and the University of Adelaide (UA). The Training Centre boasts participation from over 16 partners spanning industry and government sectors, including Research and Development Corporations (RDCs), industry representatives, Commonwealth, State, and Territory governments, as well as research and technology organisations.

    We are seeking to attract an outstanding applicant who has the expertise in radiation sciences who will be expected to undertake research, education and service (including outreach). The research aspect of the position would include undertaking quality research activities and providing research leadership, including supporting the professional development of colleagues and need a record of research achievement as demonstrated by publications, conference papers and other research activities. For the education part of the position we are looking for someone with the ability and willingness to assist in the supervision of students working on research projects.

     

    To be successful you will need:

    • 1.       A doctoral qualification in radiation-based physics, radiochemistry, medical radiations or related subjects.

    Advanced skills in radiation science and technology.

    • 2.       Demonstrated experience in radiation modelling, including Monte Carlo simulations, dosimetry and radiation protection.
