    Your Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provide specialist radiation detection and monitoring services to a range of industries and clients on a commercial basis.

    We have an exciting opportunity available in our Contaminated Land Management and Radiation technical teams - two Senior Project Officers to join the Contaminated Land Management Unit and one Senior Project Officer to join the Radiation Unit. These roles provide specialist regulatory and expert technical advice on contaminated land management and radiation to protect people, property and the environment.

    Key responsibilities of the roles in the Contaminated Land Management Unit include:

    • Providing technical contaminated land advice to teams across the EPA
    • Providing contaminated land advice on planning matters
    • Working on contaminated land technical policy and guidelines
    • Implementing quality control processes for the NSW contaminated land site auditor scheme
    • Leading specific projects addressing priority contamination issues
    • Supporting other NSW government agencies and Councils on contaminated land matters
    • The role holders have primary responsibility for maintaining knowledge on contaminated land regulation and developing and reviewing various reports on contamination.

    Key responsibilities of the role in the Radiation Unit include:

    • Providing technical advice, training and specialised regulation support in radiation related matters to our stakeholders and teams across the EPA.
    • Providing advice on complex radiation licensing and compliance matters
    • Building and maintaining comprehensive knowledge of emerging radiation issues and the approaches being taken nationally and internationally to address them
    • Developing, reviewing and implementing technical and operational policy, guidance and systems that inform regulation of radiation

    About You
    To be successful in the contaminated land management role, you’ll need to demonstrate:

    • Extensive experience in assessment of contaminated land issues and application and interpretation of the legislation and guidelines supporting contaminated land regulation.
    • Extensive knowledge of how contaminated land is managed and regulated in NSW to restore and enhance the environment.
    • Effective project management skills.

    To be successful in the radiation role, you’ll need to demonstrate:

    • Extensive experience in technical issues associated with the safe use of either ionising radiation apparatus, sealed sources or radioactive substances
    • Hold a recognised qualification from a tertiary institution in a radiation related field of study
    • Extensive knowledge of how the use of radiation is managed and regulated in NSW to protect people and the environment

    Working in the Department's Radiation Team, you will be a part of the regulation of radiation safety in Victoria.  You will have responsibility for assessing applications from individuals to use radiation sources and from companies to conduct radiation practices across Victoria.  You will conduct field inspections to monitor compliance with legislation of a diverse range of practices and, where necessary, enforce compliance with Victoria's Radiation Act 2005. You will also be a part of the Department's radiation incident response team.

    Are you 

    • A qualified and experienced radiation safety professional?
    • Experienced in conducting audits and field inspections?

    Technical expertise

    • Significant radiation safety experience including field investigations and assessments of radiation practices.
    • Demonstrated competence in the use of radiation monitoring equipment.
    • Eligibility for membership to the Australasian Radiation Protection Society Inc. and the Australian College of Physical Scientists & Engineers in Medicine.

    Knowledge and skills

    • Tertiary qualification in physics or science (with a major in physics) or an equivalent qualification relevant to radiation safety
    • A full driver's licence is required due to the need to conduct inspections across Victoria and to respond to emergencies across the State at short notice and outside business hours as required.

    Your Duties and Responsibilities

     Monitor and measure radiation levels and advise on radiological hazards, provide ventilation safety advice, log information to ensure QA compliance.

    • Provide advice to different levels of personnel on the most effective practical radiation protection measures to be taken across a large and varied range of situations. This advice is based on defined policies and procedures within a set range of parameters.
    • Deliver basic radiation safety training to other ANSTO staff, including trainee safety officers and describe work procedures to non-ANSTO visitors.
    • Provide advice on radiation safety procedures to be incorporated into divisional documents, including assisting in the preparation of these work instructions while following safety standards, procedures and instructions.
